Tomoki Sanders | Concert

Tomoki Sanders, one of the innovative figures on the New York jazz scene, will perform at Komünite on October 24 at 21:30. Carrying forward the rich jazz legacy of their father, the legendary musician Pharoah Sanders, Sanders brings the spiritual and boundary-pushing power of music to the stage, following in their father’s footsteps.

Drawing on Afro-American and Japanese cultural influences, Sanders blends avant-garde, electronic and urban sounds to create a bold musical language that transcends genres. Having drawn attention through their performances with Kassa Overall’s band over the past five years, the musician also plays an active role in the New York scene through their self-organized “Tomo Tuesdays” event series.

Following the innovative path paved by musicians such as Kamasi Washington and Shabaka Hutchings, Sanders will revive at Komünite the free jazz spirit associated with the golden era of the legendary Impulse! record label.
