Komünite

Bringing together free jazz and an experimental punk sensibility, Irreversible Entanglements comes to the Komünite stage on February 20 at 9:30 PM. Featuring Moor Mother among its members, the group draws on a distinctive musical language rooted in improvisation and collective creation.

Camae Ayewa (Moor Mother, vocals), Luke Stewart (double bass), Aquiles Navarro (trumpet), Keir Neuringer (saxophone), and Tcheser Holmes (drums) came together in 2015 at a music and discussion event in Brooklyn. The trio of Philadelphia-based Camae Ayewa and Keir Neuringer and Washington, D.C.-based Luke Stewart, and the duo of New England Conservatory graduates Aquiles Navarro and Tcheser Holmes performed back-to-back. After discovering a strong musical affinity between their respective sounds, the five musicians went into the studio a few months later, marking the beginning of Irreversible Entanglements.

Following their self-titled debut album Irreversible Entanglements in 2017, the group further developed its distinctive sound with Who Sent You? (2020), Open The Gates (2021), and Protect Your Light (2023). Their powerful live performances have taken them from clubs to international festival stages, and in 2023, the group signed with the legendary Impulse! Records.

Their fifth studio album, Future Present Past, takes the group’s distinctive interplay of improvisation, composition, and rhythm to a new level. Recorded at the historic Van Gelder Studio, the album creates a layered musical world moving between traces of the past, the uncertainties of the present, and the possibilities of the future.
